Changbai Mountain Food Guide: Wanda Resort and Erdaobaihe Town

1. Wanda Resort

  • Xiao Li Bu Che: Considering the portion size of Northeastern Chinese cuisine, we opted for Korean dishes. The groupon set meal for two was so abundant that we had to pack up the leftover chicken feet and shrimp chips to enjoy as a midnight snack back at the hotel.
  • Xiao Li Chicken Feet Pot: The chicken feet weren’t very spicy, offering two levels of spiciness. We chose the normal level, which the staff said was equivalent to the spiciness of fire noodles, but we found it less hot. The pot also included bean sprouts, quail eggs, and wide rice noodles.
  • Creamy Glutinous Rice Rings: Delicious as a dessert, these sticky rice rings are dusted with soybean powder and cream, making them a must-try treat.
  • Cheese Fried Rice with Pot Base: After finishing the chicken feet, we used the pot broth to fry rice, adding crushed seaweed for an extra savory flavor.
  • Korean Shrimp Chips: The taste of these shrimp chips was average.
  • Frozen Blueberries: The blueberries here are incredibly sweet and served frozen.
  • Rice Wine: We tried the original flavor, which is low in alcohol content and easy to drink.
  • Candied Hawthorns: Available at the center of the commercial street by the tree, they also sell frozen pears and persimmons. The flat hawthorns were tastier than the round ones, and the frozen fruit burst with juice in your mouth. However, the prices at Wanda Resort are slightly higher than outside.

2. Erdaobaihe Town

  • Park Jinzi Cold Noodle Restaurant: We went for the ginseng chicken soup, which was light in taste with ingredients like sticky rice, red dates, and chestnuts, offering a healthy and nourishing experience, though not quite to my taste.
  • Sweet and Sour Pork: It tasted quite authentic, with a tangy and sweet flavor that was very enjoyable.
  • Cold Noodles: They were decent, with a tangy and sweet flavor, and easy to chew.
  • Stone Pot Bibimbap: This was the most delicious stone pot bibimbap I’ve ever had! My friend and I scraped the pot clean; it was so good that we regretted not taking some home in vacuum packaging to satisfy cravings later.
  • Rice Wine: Here we tried the corn-flavored rice wine, which was also tasty.
  • Songbai Korean Ethnic Flavor Spinal Bone Soup: Songbai Spinal Bone Soup Pot was soft and tender, though the flavor wasn’t impressive to me. It was on the lighter side, with the pumpkin and potatoes having just the right amount of saltiness, while the crown daisy absorbed more flavors.
  • Korean Rice Cakes: A large plate, super sticky, it could be chewed in the mouth for a long time, which my friend really enjoyed.
  • Pan-Fried Potato Pancakes: I absolutely love these soft and sticky pancakes, served with soy sauce dipping. I wished I could have dipped them in ketchup – potatoes and ketchup are a perfect match!
  • Creamy Rice Wine: We ordered the creamy version of rice wine at every restaurant, and compared to the others, this one was more expensive and richer, making it much more enjoyable.
